Zachary Moses, Democratic candidate for Governor of Utah announced his selection for Lieutenant Governor.
His choice? Nathan Kizerian, Founder of Utah Satire and other popular Facebook pages.
“It wasn’t an easy choice, there were so many good people, but the universe kept bringing Nathan and I together. As I traveled the state seeking support, I kept running into Nathan,” says Zachary. He continued to say how “Nate and I hit it off at the Capitol immediately, I was up there wearing my political trucker hat, getting an idea for how to win this race, and suddenly this guy gets up and just starts drilling the Legislature. It was powerful. He drilled them for crooked behavior, and thoughtless legislation. The news loved him, and the politicians feared him. I knew I liked him immediately. This guy knows how real politics get done!”
Famous for their lighthearted roasting of Utah’s Politicians. Nathan’s satire meme page exploded in popularity, when his wife Shalyce was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. Followers watched their struggle with the State medical assistance programs, which were often in conflict with the Federal assistance programs. Nathan found his family suddenly thrust into the predatory cycle of the Utah’s healthcare system and knows the effect it has on our most vulnerable. Sending thousands of us into poverty every year.
When Nathan couldn’t get the medical cannabis his wife needed, to mitigate her pain and extend her life, Nathan sprung to political action. His social reach was instrumental in the efforts to pass Proposition 2, the medical cannabis public proposition, which passed in 2018. That proposition was immediately rewritten by the Utah Legislature. Nathan is currently listed as a plaintiff on the Proposition 2 lawsuit represented by Rocky Anderson against Governor Gary Herbert.
In 2019 Nathan used his vast social media presence to alert sleeping neighbors to the Bountiful Gun Range Fire, saving hundreds of homes. He announced to the neighborhood via Facebook Live about the crisis. He drove the streets honking his car horn to get sleeping neighbors out of their houses. The live stream reached over 200,000 viewers in a matter of minutes.
When asked why he’s taken on so many political battles Nathan said, “my greatest accomplishments in life came when I’ve helped give an invisible person a voice.” Nathan has been outspoken about homeless issues, veterans’ issues, medical cannabis and protections against human trafficking.
