My name is Zachary Adam Moses
-and I’m running to be Utah’s next Governor.
In the above video, I explain how the weather systems of the Wasatch Front, and the greater western United States have collapsed due to human water diversion.
This collapse has led to lowered water tables throughout the American west, and dwindling lake-effect snowfall. This collapse is so bad, that many scientists now think we are in a rare MEGA Drought cycle.
Dust storms are blown off these dry lake-beds throughout the Great Basin, and they are now leading to extremely unhealthy inversion-style pollution bombs along Utah’s Wasatch Front. Locally, in northern Utah, this dust is destabilizing the remaining snow-pack, which is leading to flash flooding and more water insecurity. Yikes!
In the video, I unveil the first glimpse of an ambitious plan to restore our collapsing ecosystem, reverse the effects of climate change, produce green energy, and reduce the majority of pollution along the Wasatch Front. The side effect of this moonshot project? Increased fresh water stores, restored habitat, cleaner air and profits. That’s right, we will profit from this restoration, by implementing the entire holistic plan. Human activity can produce profit with restorative side effects too if we dig into a bigger picture.
When I take office, we will commission a feasibility study regarding a potential agreement between Utah, Nevada and California. This will study the costs, profitability, benefits, and environmental impacts of pumping sea-water along the I-80 corridor to a series of pumped hydro storage batteries. These batteries will capture the roughly 40% of electricity on the western grid that is produced, but never used due to a lack of Regional Energy Storage. This wasted electricity is produced from a variety of sources, however, the bulk of this wasted production is from solar and wind. With so much investment being made into renewables, the time has come for investing into regional energy storage in order to stabilize our renewable energy grid.
Potential pumped-hydro battery sites would be located adjacent to collapsed saline lakes throughout all three states. These lakes occur most abundantly along the I-80 corridor. As batteries are charged we reduce sea level rise. As batteries are discharged, the saline-lakes and flats of the Great Basin are refilled. Humans continue using the fresh-water. Boom! So simple.
The idea is so revolutionary while simultaneously simple, that it has been recognized by TEDx. Therefore, I have been invited to give a TEDx Talk at the Peery Egyptian Theater in Ogden on August 22nd, 2020. The title of the talk is “Using Ancient Technology to Terraform Earth, First.” I’m extremely excited to present these ideas to the people of Utah, and then to scale the concepts up, in the battle to take control of Global Climate Change.
