For Christmas this year, my wife gave me a $70.00 gift card to Banana Republic. Being someone who tends to shop for bargains $70.00 sounded like a lot of money.

I figured, given the recession, that I could score some amazing deals at Banana Republic.

I was wrong.

Even at 70% off, the T-shirts were still $20.00. Twenty bucks is steep for a T-shirt any time of year! Besides, the shirts are made in a third world country even at Banana Republic. I shopped all through the store, and all I could find was the most boring, yet classy clothes I’ve ever seen.

My feeling on Banana Republic? It’s where those with money to throw away go to insure that they remain as boring as possible.

Well, this is not entirely true. They have a few interesting clothing items for ladies.

Which is why, in the end, I bought a pair of ladies pants.  The men’s pants were so boring, and made my ass look like it had been in the microwave. You know all melted in the center, like a stick of butter.

I decided I’d rather go some place where they expected men to give a shit what they look like, not just the branding.

When I tried to return my gift card, they said that they wouldn’t take it, not even with a receipt.

However, if I had purchased merchandise to begin with, I could have returned it for cash. (With a receipt.)

WTF? That doesn’t make any sense. So I can buy a pair of pants, tuck the tags in and wear them on a date, then return them for cash. However, if I just give them money for a gift card, no return whatsoever.

In the end I asked if I could save time and at least just get store credit.

Not even a chuckle. Boring clothes. Boring people.
