The other night, my friend Jeremiah came over to eat my food. Usually, Jeremiah tries to escape before Sara asks him to help with the dinner dishes. I caught him off guard with a game of Mancala.

Right when he was getting ready to go I said “wouldn’t you rather play a game with a real live person?”

Out of guilt for eating for free, Jeremiah decided to play “ONE” game.

Well his one game, turned into more like eight hundred.

You see, Mancala is very addictive. It has such an easy learning curve, that anyone can be an expert within 5 minutes, and almost everyone has beginners luck. Because of the luck, most people win within their first few tries.

For Jeremiah, this is a problem. Jeremiah loves to win, he loves to win so much, that if he’s winning, he can’t stop playing. Jeremiah also hates to lose. He hates to lose so much, that if he’s losing, he’ll keep playing until he wins. It’s a catch 22. if you want to know more about catch 22’s go here.

Anyway, the game went on for hours, and finally in the end Jeremiah left having lost 3 times in a row. He would not admit he was leaving on a low note, because he’d said “I’d better be going” 15 games ago, when he was in the lead.

So, I guess that’s when the losses stopped counting. Of course it was Jeremiah’s idea to keep playing, but who’s counting anyway?

This photo looks like a mancala boat sailing toward a lurking sea monster in the background.

Poor Jer. Being forced not only to eat my food, but also to play my board games and lose to my husband.

Hey, I am fairly certain we ended at a tie or close to it. And I do not care that I started to losing. I enjoyed dinner and the games afterward. :)
